Minipig Kupffer cells (KCs) are resident macrophages in the liver and play a central role in hepatic immune surveillance. Upon liver injury or infection, they rapidly initiate and amplify inflammatory responses through the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). Persistent activation of Kupffer cells is a key driver in the progression of steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and other chronic liver diseases by promoting sustained inflammation and hepatocellular injury.
