Mouse Serum

The mouse has long been regarded as the premier mammalian model system for genetic research. Scientists have long relied on mice owing to their close genetic and physiological similarities to humans, as well as the facility of genome manipulation and analysis. Mouse models offer a diverse array of unique inbred strains and genetically engineered mutants, tailored for investigating conditions spanning cancer, diabetes, alcoholism, and drug addiction.

Serum is a blood-derived product. To prepare serum, blood is centrifuged to remove cellular components. If the blood is anti-coagulated, it will yield plasma containing fibrinogen and clotting factors. Coagulated blood (clotted blood) yields serum without fibrinogen or other clotting factors. Blood serum is a major source of biomarkers.
